A crawler is the crane you bring when the crane is going to live on the job. It arrives in pieces on lowboys, gets assembled on site, and then stays put for the duration instead of setting up and tearing down every morning. Once it is built, it works on tracks and outriggers are not part of the picture.
That shape suits a specific kind of work: sustained heavy lifting, repetitive picks in a fixed area, tank and vessel work, structural steel over a long erection schedule, plant and industrial jobs, and duty-cycle work where a hydraulic crane would be working outside what it is built for.
The trade is mobilization. Erection and dismantle are real hours, and the haul is several loads rather than one. For a two-hour pick, a rough terrain is the cheaper and faster answer, and we will say so. For three weeks of steel, the crawler wins by a distance.
What we can confirm about the units in our yard. Boom sections, jib configuration and the load chart come with the quote.

Big-iron jobs are quoted as clean separate line items: erection, dismantle, mobilization, the haul and the crane itself each appear on their own line. That is how you keep a large crane quote checkable.
We publish only what we can stand behind. Boom and jib lengths, dimensions, weights and the load chart come with the quote, off the sheet for the actual unit in our yard rather than a number copied from a spec site for a different build of the same model.

Operated crane work bills against an hourly minimum, portal to portal. The clock runs from our yard and back rather than only while the crane sits on your pad, which is standard for operated service and is the number people forget to compare when they shop a rate.
A rigger or signal person is added per man when the pick calls for one. There is no fuel surcharge and no counterweight fee. Larger jobs are quoted as clean separate lines so mobilization, setup and crane time are each visible instead of rolled into one figure you cannot check.
Crawler work is quoted as separate visible lines for erection, dismantle, mobilization and crane time. On a job that runs weeks, that structure is the difference between an invoice you can audit and one you have to take on faith.
A crawler prices differently from a mobile crane, because the setup is a project of its own. These are the variables that move the number.
Duration on site
Crawlers reward long jobs. The longer the crane stands, the more the assembly cost spreads across the work.
Erection and dismantle
Assembling and breaking down a lattice boom takes crew and hours at both ends. It is its own line on the quote.
Boom configuration
How much lattice and what jib the job needs changes both the load chart and the number of truckloads.
Mobilization
A crawler travels in pieces, so this is several lowboy loads rather than one move. Ours, on our own trucks.
Ground preparation
Bearing capacity, crane mats and how the tracks get onto the pad all change the setup.

Crawler jobs justify a longer move than a two-hour pick does, so these machines travel. Metro Phoenix is routine, statewide Arizona is normal on a multi-week job, and we mobilize out of state when the project warrants it.
